The Basics
What is
TRE®?
TRE® (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a simple yet powerful body-based practice designed to help you release deep muscular tension, chronic stress, and even unresolved trauma — safely and naturally.
Developed by Dr. David Berceli, TRE® uses a series of gentle exercises that activate the body’s natural neurogenic tremor mechanism — an instinctive shaking or vibrating response that allows the body to discharge built-up stress, rebalance the nervous system, and restore a state of calm and ease.
How Does TRE® Work?
When you experience stress — whether from everyday pressures, emotional overwhelm, or physical injury — your body holds onto that tension. TRE® helps you unwind it from the inside out.
By activating a natural reflex in your body through specific movements, TRE® safely brings you into a mild shaking state. These tremors typically begin in the legs or pelvis and gently ripple upward, releasing tightness in muscles and fascia, calming the brain, and regulating the nervous system.
This is not a workout. It’s a reset.
TRE® is for anyone with a nervous system — and for everyone who wants to feel more at ease in their body and mind. It helps release stored tension, whether it’s caused by everyday stress, emotional overwhelm, physical strain, or past trauma.
What Changes
Benefits of TRE®
The tremors work from the inside — the results ripple outward into every corner of life. Regular practice creates real, lasting shifts.
Better sleep
Many people notice deeper, more restful sleep within weeks of a regular TRE® practice.
Less anxiety
TRE® calms an overactive nervous system, reducing the background hum of anxiety and worry.
Reduced tension
Chronic muscular tightness — in the neck, shoulders, hips — begins to soften and release.
More resilience
Regular practice builds the nervous system’s capacity to handle stress without becoming overwhelmed.
Emotional ease
Feelings that felt stuck or frozen begin to flow more naturally. Less reactivity, more spaciousness.
Trauma release
Stored trauma held in the body starts to dissolve — gently and without revisiting memories.
Pain relief
Physical pain linked to tension, stress, or trauma often reduces significantly with regular TRE®.
Groundedness
A quieter, more embodied presence in daily life — feeling at home in your own body.
Better focus
As stress decreases, clarity and concentration tend to improve naturally.
Deeper presence
Life feels less hurried, more vivid. A growing capacity to simply be here.
Vitality
Energy tied up in holding tension becomes available again — for life, connection, and joy.
Self-trust
Learning to listen to and trust your body’s own intelligence — one of TRE®’s most lasting gifts.
Who Can Benefit
You can benefit from TRE® if you’re:
- A parent, partner, or professional who wants more patience and calm at home or work
- Someone who’s experienced emotional or physical trauma — from an accident, surgery, conflict, or violence
- A soldier or first responder managing the effects of chronic stress or PTSD
- An athlete or active person recovering from injury or physical overuse
- A self-aware person on a healing or spiritual path, ready to release and grow
- Or simply someone who wants to sleep better, feel lighter, and enjoy life more
Accessible to all
TRE® can be taught one-on-one, in small groups, or even in large community settings — including those affected by collective trauma. It can enhance group connection, support conflict resolution, and bridge gaps across cultures and languages. Because it works through our shared human biology, it truly belongs to everyone.

What Makes It Unique
Why TRE® is different
TRE® meets you exactly where you are — whatever your starting point.
01
You stay in control
TRE® is always self-regulated. You learn to notice and respond to your body’s signals, adjusting the practice in ways that feel right and safe for you.
02
Integrates easily
TRE® works well on its own or as a complementary practice within other healing or therapeutic methods. It’s used by mental health professionals, somatic therapists, physical therapists, and coaches worldwide.
03
Adaptable and inclusive
TRE® meets you exactly where you are — whether you’re looking to release trauma stored in the body, ease chronic tension or physical pain, manage stress from daily life or demanding work, increase emotional resilience, or support recovery from PTSD or anxiety.
04
No talking required
You don’t have to explain anything or revisit painful memories. TRE® allows your body to process and release held tension naturally — without words.
05
Body-based healing
The therapeutic muscle tremors evoked by the TRE® process are a natural neurophysiological response that helps the body discharge stress and restore a sense of balance and well-being. This is a somatic process that often reaches places the mind alone cannot.
06
Designed for life
TRE® is a lifelong self-help tool. Once you’ve learned it (preferably with the guidance of a Certified TRE® Provider), you can return to it anytime you need — whether it’s after a stressful day or a challenging life event.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything you’d want to know before your first session.
A session begins with a series of simple physical exercises that gently tire the leg muscles and activate the body’s natural tremor mechanism. Once the tremors begin — usually a gentle shaking or vibrating in the legs — you lie down and allow them to spread through the body at their own pace. Anna guides you throughout, helping you stay comfortable, grounded, and in control. Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes.
TRE® is generally considered safe for most people when learned with a Certified TRE® Provider. It is always self-regulated — meaning you stay in control and can stop or slow the tremors at any time.
It is recommended to consult a doctor before starting TRE® if you have a history of severe trauma, certain neurological conditions, recent surgery, or are in the third trimester of pregnancy. Anna will always discuss your individual situation before your first session.
No. This is one of TRE®’s most valued qualities. You do not need to talk about, explain, or re-experience any past event. The practice works through the body’s own physiology — not through talking or cognitive processing. Many people find this a profound relief.
This varies from person to person. Many people notice changes after just one or two sessions. For deeper or more chronic patterns, a series of sessions — such as the 6-Session Package or the 3-Month Program — allows more sustained support and integration.
TRE® is ultimately a lifelong self-help tool: once you learn it, you can practise on your own anytime you need it.
During the session, you may notice warmth, tingling, gentle shaking or vibrating — particularly in the legs and torso. Most people find this deeply relaxing rather than uncomfortable. Afterward, it’s common to feel calm, grounded, lighter, or even pleasantly tired. Some people feel an emotional shift or a sense of things having “loosened.”
Yes. All of Anna’s sessions take place online — and TRE® works just as effectively via video call. You’ll need a comfortable space on the floor, a yoga mat or blanket, and a stable internet connection. Anna will guide you through every step in real time, exactly as she would in person.
No — though they can complement each other beautifully. Yoga and meditation are conscious, directed practices. TRE® works differently: it activates an involuntary, reflex-based tremor response that the nervous system uses to discharge tension. You’re not “doing” the tremors — you’re allowing them. For people who already practise yoga or meditation, TRE® often adds a dimension they hadn’t been able to reach before.
TRE® is body-led rather than talk-led. Unlike many therapies, it doesn’t require verbal processing, narrative reconstruction, or cognitive reframing. It works with the body’s own biology — and once you’ve learned it, you don’t need a therapist present to use it. It also works well alongside other approaches such as therapy, somatic bodywork, or EMDR.
