Everything you need to know about Tension & Trauma Release Exercises.

  • TRE® stands for Tension & Trauma Release Exercises. It’s a simple, body-based technique designed to help release deep tension and stress held in the body. TRE® uses a series of gentle exercises to activate the body’s natural tremoring mechanism, which can calm the nervous system and promote relaxation.

  • TRE® works by activating the body’s natural tremoring reflex through a series of seven simple exercises. These gentle vibrations help release muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma that have been stored in the body, allowing the nervous system to return to a state of balance and calm.

  • During a TRE® session, you’ll be guided through a series of exercises that gently tire specific muscle groups, particularly in the legs and pelvis. This creates the conditions for your body’s natural tremoring to begin. The session includes time for the tremoring process and integration afterward. Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes.

  • Yes, TRE® is generally very safe when practiced correctly. The exercises are gentle and designed to work with your body’s natural mechanisms. However, it’s important to learn TRE® properly with a certified provider initially, especially if you have a history of trauma or are dealing with significant stress.

  • No. TRE® doesn’t require you to talk about traumatic experiences or feelings. This is one of the unique benefits of TRE® — it works directly with the body’s natural healing mechanisms without needing to revisit or discuss difficult memories or emotions.

  • The number of sessions varies for each individual. Some people feel benefits after just one session, while others may need several sessions to establish their tremoring mechanism. Typically, 3–6 sessions are recommended to learn the technique safely and effectively. For deeper or more chronic patterns, the 6-Session Package or the 3-Month Program allows more sustained support and integration.

TRE® is ultimately a lifelong self-help tool: once you’ve learned it, you can practise on your own anytime you need it.

  • Yes, once you’ve learned the technique properly and your tremoring mechanism is well-established, you can practice TRE® at home. However, it’s important to first work with a certified provider to ensure you can safely stop the tremoring when needed and understand how your body responds to the process.

  • During TRE®, you may experience gentle tremoring or vibrations in your muscles. This is normal and beneficial. After a session, many people report feeling more relaxed, calm, and grounded. Some may experience emotional releases or have better sleep. Everyone’s experience is unique.

  • Yes, TRE® can complement other healing modalities such as psychotherapy, massage, or medical treatments. It’s important not to overdo therapies and to discuss with your healthcare providers. TRE® often enhances other treatments by helping to regulate the nervous system, and works well alongside approaches such as somatic bodywork or EMDR.

  • TRE® can benefit anyone dealing with stress, tension, anxiety, or trauma. It’s particularly helpful for people with PTSD, chronic stress, physical tension, or those who have experienced accidents, surgery, or emotional trauma. It’s also beneficial for general wellness and stress management.

  • While TRE® is generally safe, certain conditions may require special consideration, such as pregnancy, recent surgeries, severe mental health conditions, or certain medications. Always consult with a certified TRE® provider who can assess your individual situation and determine if TRE® is appropriate for you.

  • For beginners, it’s recommended to practice TRE® no more than 3–4 times per week, with sessions lasting 15–20 minutes. As you become more experienced, you can adjust the frequency based on your body’s needs and responses. Quality is more important than quantity with TRE®.
